Bulldog Reporter announces that Fox News is pulling head of CNN again after the latter had a brief respite from a six year slump in the popularity of its news content. MSNBC continues at a sad and distant third.

Now, I don't know that Fox news coverage, integrity, blah, blah, blah is all that much better in quality that CNN's. But it certainly is different in terms of its bias. All news is biased because all news is reported by humans and all humans are biased.

Furthermore, we tend to associate with those who most share our interests and worldviews, so it follows that a network that is built of reporters who associate on conservative worldviews is going to be conservative. Likewise for a liberal network.

And that's okay. That's what the First Amendment was meant to protect. On the dark side of things, with Obama a serious contender for the presidency and a Democrat-controlled congress, the Fairness Doctrine looms on the horizon. For a peek at how scary the Left is becoming in their fanatical thinking about reinstating this outdated and poorly conceived idea, see here.

My advice is to watch all the news stations. Get a variety in your system. Although after flipping through all news stations. My dial usually stops on Fox News. They pride themselves on being fair and balanced. Fox News does this because if u put a blabbering liberal up against a blabbering conservative. The conservative always sounds and looks better. So Fox News always wins in the end.

More thoughts from the Democratic debate

  • Eliminating the distinction between crack and powder cocaine apparently is at the top of the docket for Democrats' reforms of the criminal justice system. This is the height of misplaced priorities for the national executive.

  • The question asked if there should be a federal right to return to New Orleans. This debate is getting more and more silly by the minute. There is an absolute right under the constitution to travel and relocate. That there is any discussion of this issue shows the lack of depth of the democratic constituency.

  • Finally a semblance of sanity about outsourcing from Joe Biden. Sometimes he sounds so reasonable (especially compared to this crowd) and then I remember the judicial nominations of Roberts and Alito.

  • Kucinich just tried to outflank Gravel by advocating the abolishment of NAFTA. You're going to have to do better than that Dennis. Once you start to advocate assassination of President Bush you'll regain the title of nuttiest Presidential nominee.

  • I'm reaching for the earplugs again with Hillary.

  • A buzz word in Democratic circles has been "moral authority". My question is: What does it matter if you have "moral authority" if you are unwilling to act? Kucinich's department of Peace would have all the moral authority in the world, but it would do nothing. Certainly the UN has moral authority, but we all know what the UN has done with that moral authority. It seems more important for these candidates to portend morality than to act.

Hillary's voice is an offense to the ear.

Why we have a methamphetamine epidemic in America, they are bickering about whether crack should be treated different than powder cocaine? http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/meth/
How about talking about real problems in America, like securing our border so the high grade crank coming from Mexico is interdicted?

A few thoughts from the Democratic debate last night:

  • Bill Richardson summed it up for the Democrats when he said that we shouldn't worry about how to pay for all the programs they propose. Really? This was the party promoting fiscal discipline this last election, right? That kind of fiscal irresponsibility is dangerous on the personal level and even more so on the national level.

  • John Edwards is the most dangerous top tier candidate for America. With all due respect to Clinton and Obama, Edwards would pit America against itself in a class and racial warfare. He is the antithesis of the successful welfare reform passed in the 1990's.

  • Denis Kucinich has lost his turf to Mike Gravel, who when he ends his run for the presidency will return to the asylum he was let out of.

  • I'm not sure if Hillary realizes that she has a microphone in front of her. Apparently she's trying to return to the old days where your message only carried as far as the sound of your voice. I feel like I just got out of a rock concert after listening to her.

I just got an email from Howard Dean. I have to give the Dems this. They know how to elicit a reaction among their base and how to capitalize on it. I know that many pundits of late have made beans about the Dems outraising the GOP online. My theory: The Dems have a hot button issue that evokes emotion and they are willing (some would say conniving) to monetize that issue as best they can.

See for yourself.

Right now McCain taking heat from the left for being solid on Iraq. He's almost a lightning rod for the left's pure animus about the war. Why?

Because secretly would love to vote for the guy if he would just denounce Bush like he usually does. Instead he's standing on principle.

Unfortunately for McCain - he's the punching bag - not Romney or Rudy.

From Drudge:
Democratic U.S. presidential candidate John Edwards on Sunday said that he would raise taxes, chiefly on the wealthy, to pay for expanded healthcare coverage under a plan costing $90 billion to $120 billion a year to be unveiled on Monday.

"We'll have to raise taxes. The only way you can pay for a healthcare plan that cost anywhere from $90 to $120 billion is there has to be a revenue source," Edwards said on NBC's Meet the Press news program.
Tax cuts have always been proven to increase government revenues, stimulate the economy, and brought us out of Clinton's recession so raising taxes does what??

John Edwards = Walter Mondale + Hillary Clinton. He's all done.

I thought Edwards would know better. "The only way you can pay for a healthcare plan that cost anywhere for $90 to $120 billion" is to do it like Mitt did--no new taxes.

The answer is never throw more $ at it. Instead, excise the inefficiencies and reform the system.

Feckless democratic ad
Listen, we all recognize that the President is down in the polls. But leave it to the Democrats to kick him when he's down. I guess that's politics. But it seems a bit absurd and a bit outlandish to launch a fundraiser to take back the White House during the State of the Union address.

Tonight I received the following email from the Howard Dean. Admittedly, this is a savvy way to rally the base. But in my book it's basically a feckless rub in the face. My only consolation is that probablynot make it to 1600 donations before the night is out.

Dear Justin,

This president's approval ratings have sunk to levels unseen since Richard Nixon.

That's right -- going into his State of the Union speech, George Bush's popularity matches the Republican who became so deeply and universally disliked that he resigned from office. Americans have had it with this president.

So today, I want to talk to you about the next President.

You may not know everything about all the Democratic candidates yet. But let me assure you of one thing: building on our success in 2006 and continuing to grow the Democratic operation everywhere this year is absolutely critical to ensuring that a Democrat wins in 2008.

We took back both houses of Congress, but there's one important house left -- and it sits at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Putting a Democrat back in the White House will require a long-term investment by our party. It's time to take the investments of the last two years and go even further:

http://www.democrats.org/1600penn

You see, while Democratic presidential candidates build operations in the states they need to win the nomination, it's up to the national party to grow capacity everywhere so our candidate is ready for the general election.

The fight for the Democratic nomination will be tough and expensive, and the winner must emerge with viable operations in the states that will decide the general election.

That's where you come in.

Besides supporting your favorite candidate, each of us has a responsibility to ensure that our nominee inherits a truly national organizing operation. That's the DNC's mandate, and it's one we must fulfill together.

We're already on our way. Our 50-state strategy powered victories up and down the ballot, in every part of the country in 2006.

We shocked the experts who simply didn't know how to explain three new Democratic Congressmen from supposedly "red" Indiana, Democratic sweeps in "swing" states like Iowa and Ohio, or unexpected wins in places like Kansas and Kentucky.

The Republicans never knew what hit them.

If we continue to build our program of grassroots organizing everywhere, they will be even more surprised when the Democratic nominee for president seems poised for an upset in some supposedly "safe Republican" states.

Will you make your down payment on a Democratic victory in 2008 right now? You can make your donation right here:

http://www.democrats.org/1600penn

You may have to watch George Bush give the State of the Union this year, but if you look closely you'll see the impact small donations can make.

Over his left shoulder will be Speaker Nancy Pelosi -- the first woman ever to lead the House, and the first Democrat in over a decade.

It took a 50-state strategy to make that happen. Democrats picked up seats in "red" states, "blue" states and everywhere in between because we made a deliberate choice to fight everywhere.

As you see the images of George Bush standing at that podium, I want you to imagine a new Democratic president standing there in his place.

If you want that day to come, it's time to act -- please make a donation of whatever you can afford now to kick off the 2008 campaign:

http://www.democrats.org/1600penn

Below you'll find a selection of the advice and suggestions that tens of thousands of you passed along to Senator Jim Webb as he prepares to give the nationally televised Democratic response.

Your notes convey feelings of both hope and concern -- optimism about the possibilities that come with more Democrats in charge, but frustration with the direction this president still seems intent on dragging the country.

The good news is that the rest of the country agrees with you.

The bad news is that if we don't rev up the operation now, we could miss the opportunity to elect a Democratic president to replace this one at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

Make your commitment to the 2008 election now by making a donation to build the infrastructure we'll need to win:

http://www.democrats.org/1600penn

Now I'll leave the task of addressing the substance of the State of the Union in capable hands ...

Yours.

Thank you,

Governor Howard Dean, M.D.

Oh, well. Regardless. Enjoy the speech
