One thing that seems fairly apparent from the ongoing Democratic race is that it has been bad for the Democratic nominees. Both have lost some of the luster they once possessed. Clinton looks increasingly mean and destructive. Obama looks more and more empty and substance-less. Likewise their spouses appear to have lost some of their appeal. Michelle Obama appears to be the antithesis of her husband’s campaign of hope. She paints the gloomiest picture of American life that anyone with an Ivy League education, a rising six-figure income, and a seemingly stable family is capable of conveying. Bill has faded into the background, apparently his punishment for portraying Obama as essentially a one race candidate.

The other thing that is appears to be happening is that the Republican Party is coalescing. There certainly are those who are reject McCain (and I can’t blame them), but there is not the continuing dialogue of personal destruction as in the Democratic race. This is demonstrably due to the graceful exit of one Mitt Romney. Romney’s elevation of principle (and party) over personal ambition set a tone of reconciliation and healing that is remarkably absent from the Democratic race. His example has allowed the Republican party to move forward, mostly, with a united front. This, in spite of the fact that there was still a seemingly legitimate contender to McCain still in the Republican race. Had Romney remained, the Republican party would have had a similar fate as the Democratic party is now experiencing.

It is little surprise that Romney’s influence is still being felt and the benefits of his campaign (and exit) still being enjoyed.

Ann Coulter was on MSNBC yesterday and basically said the only way she could vote for McCain is if Romney was the VP.Boy,do I agree with that sentiment. Too bad the corporate old boy network that's advising the McCain campaign would rather plug in a non descript RINO governor instead. Mitt's dynamic personality would just overshadow McCain's near comatose personna.Somehow McCain has to come up with a domestic agenda or he'll lose big.

I do not like McCain or trust him, but because of Mitt's example, I will vote for him and will not work against McCain.

I'm still having quite the internal struggle re: McCain. At this point, the best I can say is that I won't actively work against him. Where I go from there is still up in the air.

It looks like they've updated some things on over at www.mittromney.com. Maybe some things are to come.

Mitt Romney's goal all along wasn't so much to become the president himself, but help keep the white house in Republican hands and in that respect his campaign was very effective, although Obama now wishes it was less so. I followed Mitt's lead and voted for McCain in the primaries. McCain is not the best candidate, but he is far better than the Democrats and I could sleep well at night knowing McCain was president. I hope he picks Mitt as his running mate, but he needs to look at all of the ramifications and do the best he can to get elected. I hope he doesn't pick Crist. That would make him look like a back-door politician and cause such a stink that those of us who supported Mitt might just sit this one out.

I finally got the change to put my ballot in for Mitt here in Texas. I didn't feel comfortable voting for any other candidate. Mitt, you set a great example for Republicans everywhere, and for Americans! I do not like McCain, but I'd prefer to hold my nose and watch him try to win this war and bring troops home, then to see a democrat sound the retreat horn and bring the troops back in defeat.

Romney is the bigger man. What he did was foundational. More people should take his lead. From politicians to athletes to anyone belonging to a team. For America is the biggest team of all. He did what was best for himself and the group. If you've seen "A beautiful Mind" You know what I am talking about. Follow this principal and everyone wins.

Hannity is having Mitt and McCain on his show on Monday for a big announcement.

anonymous, are you serious about a Mitt/McCain announcement???? Where did you see/hear that???

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 7, 2008 at 11:38 PM

Where did you hear about a big announcement? I heard they were both going to be on the show, but not that there was any big announcement.

Mitt really made no impression in the states of the country that are Republican strongholds, namely the South. He should have stuck to his moderate stances. He may have had a chance.

I was very disappointed when I heard of Mitt Romney's withdrawal
but I pray we've not heard or seen the last of him. It would be great
to see McCain and Romney together
The Democrats have nothing good to
offer this great country and as far as I am concerned they need not apply for the job!!

Mitt's website is up again, not as full as before, no 5 bros but there is an announcemnet section. Nothing about running as VP but Hannity is having McCain on his show for a full hour on Monday. Kevin, Mitt's campaign manager, was on Hannity and Colmes on Friday but I have not watched the whole show yet. I did not post the VP rumor.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 9, 2008 at 12:35 PM

I heard a promo of Fox that Mitt would be on Hannity and Colmes Monday night. However it said at 10PM. I thought H&C came on at 9PM? I'll prolly just record both hors to be on the safe side. Should be interesting at the very least. I am so bored with the Dem race I could scream.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 9, 2008 at 6:49 PM

I posted the info on Hannity butit wasn't meant as a possible VP announcement, although I am sure Hannity was using it as a teaser. It is way too early to be naming a VP, especially when you don't know who you are running against. My guess is that Mitt will become an economic advisor or perhaps he could even take Mel Martinez's vacated position at the RNC. I guess we just have to wait and see, either way Mitt will play a big part in the Party's future.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at March 9, 2008 at 11:46 PM

Just say no to McCain. Crabby old guy who's incompetent as to economics. There's gotta be somebody else who throws in, otherwise I'm not voting. He'll just turn around and kick conservatives in the head.

We would never stoop to the level of personal destruction that is so typical and consistent with the liberal Democrats. Nonetheless, I understand and appreciate the Romney effect. I miss him so much and was sad to see his website is completely gone.
