...in limerick style:

There once was a guy we call Sam
Who’s a conservative politician
He said he’s whole-life
With religion he’s rife
And now he’s at home with the fam.

A Senator surnamed Brownback
His campaign was never on track
His third place in Ames
Sent his bid up in flames
And donations his campaign did lack.

How about this one...

To be President, Sam did aspire.
Though he never could quite light the fire.
He thought he's a hit
When he attacked Mitt,
But the funding he couldn't acquire.

  • From abortion to nuclear pork projects, Thompson's lobbying record leaves much to be desired for conservatives. Kenneth Vogel over at the Politico has the extensive details on the nuclear blemish on Thompson's bona fides.

  • "It sounds like an effort by Giuliani to make himself seem like a hawk on immigration when, in fact, he's been a dove all along," the executive director of the Center for Immigration Studies, Mark Krikorian, said. More here.

Fred! is the "anybody but the Mormon" candidate and those who bought into the hype are starting to have a little buyer's remorse.
I know two Fred! supporters and one has already given up on him and the other is only luke warm about him now.

Ya gotta love ol' Mitt when he compares the campaign work that his sons are doing to the way our troops are defending this great country. Nice Mitt, Really nice. Everyone of those Romney boys were multi-millionaires the day they were born. Yet Mitt has the gall to compare them with men and women who have given their lives in defense of this country. They should make a movie about those Romney boys, maybe call it "Full Dinner Jacket."

10000 to 1 odds say you just read an article on politico... and didn't watch the clip yourself. No such comparison is mad.

Get a life, or at least move on to your next lame issue.

Here is the word for word quote from Gov. Romney "It's remarkable how we can show our support for our nation, and one of the ways my sons are showing support for our nation is helping to get me elected, because they think I'd be a great president. My son, Josh, bought the family Winnebago and has visited 99 counties, most of them with his three kids and his wife. And I respect that and respect all of those in the way they serve this great country"
How is "helping him get elected" being of service to this great country? Please explain this. That comment by Mitt is a slap in the face to every man or woman wearing the uniform. That takes alot of nerve to compare riding around Iowa in the family air conditioned Winnebago to our troops in Iraq riding around in armoured vehicles dodging road side bombs. Mitt needs to apologize and he needs to do it now or it will be another dead fish around his neck.

Fan Hitter
---
I dare you to tell us who you support for POTUS.
---
Are you ashamed of the person you support?

FanHitter-

As usual, you prove to be an uncommon ignoramous, demanding an apology that was already given. Mitt apologized for that statement a day or two after he said it. When asked about it in a subsequent interview he said it was inappropriate and that what his sons were doing was not in any way comparable to the men and women serving our country in uniform.

Mitt's comparison was off, but he recognized it. He also said something important that many trolls overlook: we have a volunteer army.

From Jim Geraghty:

Matt Lewis spotlights a new message from the Brownback campaign:

The Brownback for President Campaign announced today it is officially proposing a new word be added to Webster's Dictionary: "Mitt-amorphasis."

Definition:
1. (v) A self-directed and self-contradictory cyclical process, occurring in even-numbered years, by which a Massachusetts politician transforms at will.

I kinda like Brownback, and he's got some good people working for him. But man, you just cannot go after an opponent on flip-flopping when you just voted "yes", then "no" on cloture for the immigration deal in a span of about 13 minutes. You just can't.

This would be like Hillary charging that Obama has likeability and baggage issues.

What is this clown's (Sorry, Senator Clown) objective?
Does he think he is going to hurt Romney?
Help himself?
Romney is being about as positive a human being can be in American Politics and Senator Switchback is acting like a spoiled child.
Is his staff nothing but Democrats?

Thank you for a laugh for the day! It's interesting to see what happens to the 3rd tier candidates when they realize they have no shot...so, should they add a term Brownbackonian: term used to describe hypocritical attacks of a 3rd tier candidate hopelessly trying to get some attention.

Sad that Brownback and Co. appear so bitter. There are plenty of other candidates without a chance of making the top-tier who manage to avoid meaningless ad hominem.

Flipback, er, Brownback?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 12, 2007 at 7:36 PM

Changing your mind on such an important issue is a good thing. I wish more people would change their minds. I am taking a Political Science class in college and I linked the class discussion board to some anti-abortion sites that showed images of 8 week abortions and many of them changed their minds.

If someone is constantly changing their mind on issues like Hillary, that is a different matter...

What is "Flip"back, er, Brownback complaining about?

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 13, 2007 at 7:19 AM

I have no respect left for Brownback. When he first ran for Congress, he took a long time to test the political waters before he was willing to take a stand on abortion. When it became clear the pro-life direction was the winning ticket, he proclaimed his pro-life position to the world. Since then he's found his niche in politics by shouting this position to the world. His "moral" leadership is nothing more than political prowess. The recent flip-flop attacks on Romney are pure hypocrisy.

By Anonymous Anonymous, at July 13, 2007 at 11:21 AM

Brownback who? I can't think of a greater flip-flop than what he pulled to finish the immigration debate. Attacking Mitt is his only voice. He literally has no other campaign. No message, no achievements.

Oh, that is so endearing. I just want to vote for Brownback now. He won me over. I am sucker for leaders who are petty. Way to go Sam, way to go!

From RS:

Today, the Senate voted on an amendment to eliminate sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants.

The amendment failed by one vote.

Sam Brownback did not vote.

Does anyone know why?

(Before anyone jumps down his throat or mine, I'm sure there's a reason.)

Apparently he also missed another crucial vote earlier in the week

MMM reader Will Munsil makes some astute observations about the CPAC straw poll
He has a very good looking site to boot!
http://timeforchoosing.com/node/111
1. Romney was the only candidate to finish in the top 2 in every segment of the conservative movement that he mentioned in his speech (1st in fiscal, 2nd in social, 2nd in national security)

2. Every other candidate has one (or more) areas of the conservative coalition that will under no circumstances choose them as their favorite, with the possible exception of McCain. For example, Brownback gets killed in fiscal and national security conservatives, Giuliani gets only 8% of social conservatives, etc)

3. Therefore, Romney is the only candidate with a legitimate chance of uniting fiscal, social, and national security conservatives to create the same kind of national coalition that Bush gathered. Nominating anyone else (again, with the possible exception of McCain, but I really don't think he will win when stacked up against Romney's relative youth, overwhelming charisma and optimism, etc) will cause segments of the GOP coalition to sit it out a little bit, causing President Hillary.

4. Romney's stand-out performance among young voters will only get stronger. In my opinion, my generation looks for optimism, pragmatism and dynamism from their politicians (note Obama's popularity among young Dems). Romney is the only Republican candidate who exemplifies all three of those traits. Romney, as his name and voice get out there, could be Obama-style popular among young Republicans.
