From the classic Norman Rockwell painting, "Doctor and Boy" Another familiar Rockwell piece: "Freedom of Speech" You have to admit... its the first thing that came to your mind when you heard Obama's reference to global warming.
I reacted to "Freedom of Speech" viscerally before realising what I was seeing. My heart leapt as the awareness that Senator Obama is a perfect visage for this famous painting leads me to conclude that this is the way I see Obama, internally and perhaps unconciously, as a noble "everyman". He is the man in "Freedom...", the very embodiment of what Rockwell sought to portray.
omg, how much of a follower can the previous commentor be? Are you this trusting? Well in that case I am starting a cult since obviously there are really blind, naive, and overly trusting idiots out there
Haha you did a good job photoshopping, the freedom of speech is done very well. But I have to say i don't really like Obama. So these as satiracal pieces really made me laugh (especially global warming). If only Norman Rockwell was still here.
That tornado that ripped several Super Tuesday states might have caused Mitt to remember that his ancestor Parley P. Pratt was in the vicinity in 1834 and the end of the Zion’s Camp trek when a tornado wiped out the 400 man mob at Fishing Creek.
It is politically Incorrect to even think about this unless you are an insurance man and know that tornados are classified as an Act of God. Even secular insurance men believe this.
In southern states like Arkansas and Missouri, the peak of tornado season is March through May, while in the northern states, like Iowa and Illinois, more tornadoes occur in the late spring and summer.
If you don’t have a quick reference of the Zion’s camp march, I can send you a copy.
Yes, I was there. No video I have seen yet has actually shown what it was actually like. It was very SCARY yes AMAZING... these videos are the best yet
Lost in the excitement of this last week's fundraising efforts were some of the "Ask Mitt Anything" stops he made. David Brody, the respected reporter from CBN, filed this report on Thursday.
Jason has done a tremendous job posting videos over the last few days. To help facilitate this venture we give you (with a generous hat tip to Patrick Ruffini's 2008 wall) the Mitt Romney Iowa Video Wall:
Wow! What a cool family! I am happily jealous of them. Family has a way of keeping you humble - especially your children -- Mitt has 5 boys and by marriage, by girls. They love him unconditionally and aren't afraid to tell him the truth. He seems like a truly humble man. Some people have trouble believing that because he looks and sounds so good. People must think, "He has to be arrogant." Not true. I have a yoga teacher who is gorgeous - perfect body, face, hair, smile -- and she is one of the most giving and loving people I know. She's beautiful from the inside out. I think this is true of Mitt and Ann. God has truly blessed them. And like one of their sons said on this video, "Mitt has been lucky, too."
Thank you for opening up your family to us...all of you...There are many of your extended family that have not had the opportunity to meet you but are all behind you! Hopefully America will harness your success and solid foundation and put it to work for our country...we need your leadership. I wish all Americans could watch this! Wishing you the best... Bruce Romney in Dallas, TX
The "pre-marital sex" question is awkward but not outrageous in its context
Mike seems rather taken with the Romney family
Mitt calls his wife "a babe"
Mitt aptly explains himself on the charge of flip-flop
The Romney's lake house has an awesome island designed for extra grandkid participation (see below)
All in all... the interview was a terrific introduction to the nation of Mitt Romney. Wallace got in all of the usual MSM questions about Mitt but he did it with surprising alacrity and class (even the "pre-marital sex" question wasn't as unnerving as previously noted).
I think this turned out very well. It started out as a glowing spotlight on Mitt, and even though they brought up the usual "flip-flop" accusations toward the end of the feature, I thought he handled it extremely well.
After the segment, Catholic Democrat Grandma called. She says Mitt was very impressive and added, "I didn't know he is George Romney's son. I love George Romney."
egarding plural marriage Mitt said in what appeared to be a rehearsed response: "I can"t imagine anything more awful than polygamy." I was concerned at the answer. I hope the campaign works up a better way to express his personal feeling on the subject.
My comments:
Is polygamy more awful than incest & other forms of rape? Is polygamy more awful than extra-affairs? Is polygamy more awful than than divorce?
Maybe there are some things more awful than polygamy. I say all of the above. Was polygamy a difficult thing for all involved? Was it againts the standards and traditions of that day? Yes. It was awfully hard on those who followed their leaders counsel & lived that lifestyle. I guess that says a lot about their trust in their God and their belief that their leaders were indeed directed by God. Mitt mentioned that his Great-Grandfather lived it after seeing that he needed to. If I remember right he moved his families to Mexico so he would not be hounded by the US government as he lived accoding to his religious beliefs. Just my personal comments. I'm sure many of you would see it differently.
After getting in hot water for his comments on "true" believers defeating the "one Mormon" in the race, Sharpton gets out his shovel and keeps digging. The logic runs thus:
1) Mormonism didn't allow blacks the priesthood before 1978 2) Mormonism is therefore racist 3) Romney was a Mormon before 1978 (1965 or whatever) 4) Romney is not a believer in God
I am not a member of the LDS church. The bigotry Mitt has endured ENRAGES ME especially that from the right as I expected better of them. But Al Sharpton is doing Mitt a huge favor here. The RIGHT is going to rally to Romney's defense against Sharpton's bigoted and ignorant rantings.
The debate now is not about Mitt being a Mormon but about the right of all American citizens to worship as they wish.
This will be a defining moment for the Romney campaign. If it can handle Sharpton's barbs really well, then it can survive anything and yes it will thrive.
I will be a curious observer how this will be done.
P.S. Isn't Katie Adams, a Mormon, on the Rutgers Woman Basketball Team. I would be curious of her thoughts on the matter?
You really need to let this issue die. I am as big a Romney fan as they come, but continuing to push this issue is not going to win allies. Just about everyone outside of Sharpton sees the folly of his remarks. Dwelling on it incessantly is unnecessary and overplayed. Let's not waste more bandwidth on this chump and get back to the real issues of the campaign. Unfortunate as it is, continuing to drag this out just opens the door, as Sharpton points out, to focus on obscure aspects of Mormon history that simply will NOT play well with most voters if given continual airtime. It removes the focus from Mitt's message and places squarely where the MSM wants it. Stop giving your opponent a podium. It isn't helping ANYONE anyone, anymore - particularly GMR.
Am I the only one who sees this episode as potentially harmful to Romney? The beginning of the whole affair was a comment by Sharpton's debate opponent regarding the status of blacks in the LDS church in decades past. Sharpton made his inappropriate comment in partial response. That was where the issue should have been left to die. Instead, the Romney camp implies that Sharpton is a "bigot" with the result that Sharpton has now turned the bigotry accusation back on Romney and the LDS church and gone on record (with CNN) demanding that Romney repudiate the church's former position on blacks.
I fail to see how this does anything but put Romney on the defensive and call attention to an issue that would better be left out of the headlines.
Already, in comments from all corners, I see various glaring errors in the way the LDS church's relationship to blacks is being portrayed. Stuff like this definitely hurts Romney more than helps. I have to wonder what the Romney camp expected to have happen once they opened this Pandora's box. I suppose they were thinking that any publicity is good publicity. I would respectfully disagree.
Sharpton's comment highlights a fundamental truth. Mormons and Evangelical and Pentecostals don't believe in the same God. Mormons believe that a man ascended to godhood, I say they believe in 'that guy, god.' Evangelical and Pentecostal Christians believe in God who always existed, is eternal, and manifested as a man in Jesus Christ. It's an important distinction. I live in a 99% mormon community and have heard all sides of the doctrine. The mormon community should not try to blur doctrinal lines.
Last week we noted a campaign flyer that was making the rounds at CPAC. It was featured on numerous news shows including CBN and FoxNews with Carl Cameron .
Over the weekend it looks like the folks at Meet the Press found it as well:
Once again Justin Hart is one stop shopping when it comes to CPAC. You beat the MSM out with the CPACnews, and just as I was saying to myself, "I wonder what other Joe-Schmoe attendees at CPAC thought about Romney?" - you plaster You Tube with the appropriate interviews. Thank you much.
